For France

I always purchase a small luxury for yourself – one wonderful souvenir!
Hermes scarf is what I enjoy – and it lasts a lifetime! Plus every time I
wear one, I remember my trip!  Or a great pair of shoes, Artwork, etc! –

Hermes, as well as other items can be purchased
DUTY FREE at the
airport BEFORE you DEPART France!!!  OF course, this thinking is very
French but, when in France?

When entering a store of ANY KIND (even a butcher’s) – ALWAYS say
“Bonjour Madame” or Monsieur.  France is VERY formal still and this little
bit of politeness will carry you a long way.  Before leaving, even if nothing
was purchased – say, “Merci Madame or Monsieur.”

Go to
Monoprix (the Target of France) for small tokens, forgotten items,
(hat, umbrellas, shirt, etc) and super-markety stuff (two stories) in a
pinch! Plus it’s a lot of fun!  There are over 20 in Paris alone – ask the
concierge for closest one.

Don’t forget to try and go to one market at least – a true flavour of Paris –
locals always go to the markets! Plus the foods and smells are
sensational!  Buy flowers for your room!  Buy the super tiny strawberries
that are true delicacies!

DO keep your receipts for everything you spend in a single store that is
OVER 150 Euros – you can RECOUP your taxes (VAT –value added tax)
you’ve paid (it’s already in the price) before departing France – BUT this
is where the empty duffle comes in – you may be required by the agent to
show proof of your items! –   Still it can be worth it – last time in Paris I
recouped a few hundred dollars!  France’s taxes are high – also, the
store can offer you a tax form – IF YOU ASK!

ITALIA

In Italy, I love to purchase a fun pair of shoes or leather goods - like a
handbag.  I still have every pair I've ever bought there and still wear them
as they can be very classic and stylish at the same time.

In some parts of Italy (Venice - I buy masks, and glass from Murano , In
Liguria I enjoy the pesto - like NO other in the WORLD!)  In Piedmonte,
and Chianti we had wine shipped back to home!
