Hotels

I would love to hear about great experiences for kids at overseas hotels!  It's not often that
I find a website review that offers reviews from PARENTS and CHILDREN!  This is where I
need your help !

Start at www.TripAdvisor.com for suggestions on hotels -

HINT -
before leaving - ask your hotel about "family" plans, B&B plans, and/or "American"
breakfast plans.  These can save you a lot of cash and gets good food in the little guys so they
can hold out until mid-am snack or even lunch for the older ones.

If you do end up eating out - Cafes are great in Paris for brekky - about 10 euros for a plate of
eggs and croissants.  Not bad for a major city nowadays!  Other destinations offer little pastry
shops or deli -like places that you can get things to go.

Also, you may need to call the actual hotel to fit you all in on room (if you have 3 or more kids,
like us)
MANY if not MOST hotels do NOT have adjoining rooms in Europe - if it is a non-
American chain hotel - and even these sometimes, because of the building (old, historical,
etc) do not either.
That's okay if  your children are older - but I'm not comfortable having my 5
and 7 year old down the hall from me!  ALSO - ask about a triple or quad room for families.

Luxury Hotels - come with luxury prices - we've gotten to stay at these, sometimes using
our accumulated points (Starwood) These tend to offer lots of amenities for kids - making
them feel like princes, princesses - but you PAY a King's ransom!

I go to
www.expedia.com to see photos, prices, and locations (what's around) of the hotel.  I
also visit
www.tripadvisor.com for recent reviews.

I look for hotels that offer these things: cribs, adjoining rooms, babysitting service.  These
things are enough to tell me that they are used to having children at their establishments.

I AVOID BUSINESS traveler hotels as these are designed for them in mind and tend not to
have as many amenities for families (not to say that all do not).  I have stayed at a few
"business traveler" hotels before and have not yet had a great experience with children - not a
bad one either - just okay.  But, when I'm on vacation and spending any kind of money - I don't
consider okay acceptable!

Youth Hostels - can be a good choice - if you have an experience to share with me - I
would love to hear about it - here's a website on youth hostels in Europe -
http://www.hostelworld.com/continentpage.php/ChosenContinent.Europe?source=overturetop

The sooner you make reservations - the better rates you can get and the better
accommodations they can request for you - especially if you ask to speak to a manager to help
you out!
